Another source of pride for Indonesia on the global stage: Lokapala, as the first Indonesian-made MOBA game, is being showcased at the Gamescom event.
Gamescom itself stands as the most prestigious gaming event in Europe. This occasion is often seized upon by developers and game publishers worldwide to exhibit their creations.
Notably, this event held at Koelnmesse, Cologne, Germany, also holds sway as one of the pivotal events in the gaming industry landscape, particularly shaping the Western hemisphere's gaming panorama.
Anantarupa Studios, the creators of Lokapala, are proudly present at Gamescom, marking them as one of the Indonesian game companies invited to Germany.
This year, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy / Creative Economy and Tourism Agency (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) is promoting eleven local game companies at Gamescom, which takes place from the 22nd to the 27th of August 2023.
Quoting from a press release by Kemenparekraf, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, stated during the "Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno" event at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta on Monday, August 14, 2023, that this initiative is made possible through a collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Trade, Jakarta Creative Economy and Tourism Office, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Berlin, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Frankfurt, Indonesian Trade Promotion Center in Hamburg, Indonesian Game Association, and Cakra Association.
"The potential of this gaming industry has significantly grown from year to year, allowing local industry players to end the dominance of foreign game developers and take the lead in the domestic market. The next generation of local game developers must be present. We need to strengthen the digital ecosystem in Indonesia," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Deputy of Marketing at Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, shared that they are adopting the tagline "Games From Indonesia" to resonate in Germany.
"We aim to show the world that Indonesia is not merely a market but can also be a 'player' in the global gaming industry, thanks to our exceptional talents," she said.
Ivan Chen, CEO of Anantarupa Studios, warmly welcomes this opportunity as a moment to elevate Indonesia's name through cultural diplomacy in the realm of gaming.
"Throughout Indonesian history, dating back to the Nusantara era, we have been closely linked with leadership values. This sentiment aligns with the leadership ethos embedded in Lokapala. Satu lagi kebanggaan Indonesia di mata dunia, Lokapala sebagai game MOBA pertama buatan Indonesia ikut dipamerkan di acara Gamescom.
Gamescom itu sendiri adalah acara game paling bergengsi di Eropa. Acara ini biasanya digunakan oleh para developer maupun publisher game dari seluruh dunia untuk memamerkan produk buatan mereka.
Tidak tanggung-tanggung, acara yang digelar di Koelnmesse, Cologne, Jerman ini juga menjadi salah satu acara yang menentukan peta industri game, khususnya untuk peta di dunia belahan Barat.
Anantarupa Studios sebagai pembuat game Lokapala juga turut hadir di Gamescom yang menjadi salah satu perusahaan game lokal Indonesia yang diundang ke Jerman.
Tahun ini, Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif/Badan Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) mempromosikan 11 perusahaan game lokal di Gamescom yang diselenggarakan dari tanggal 22 - 27 Agustus 2023 ini.
Mengutip dari siaran pers Kemenparekraf, Menprekraf Sandiaga saat acara "Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno” di Gedung Sapta Pesona, Jakarta, Senin (14/8/2023) menjelaskan, kegiatan ini terselenggara atas kolaborasi dengan Kemenkominfo, Kemendag, Disparekraf DKI, KBRI Berlin, KJRI Frankfurt, ITPC Hamburg, Asosiasi Game Indonesia, dan Asosiasi Cakra.
“Potensi dari industri game ini meningkat sangat signifikan dari tahun ke tahun, pelaku industri game lokal bisa mengakhiri dominasi developer game dari luar negeri dan memimpin pasar dalam negeri. Generasi penerus pengembang game lokal harus hadir. Ekosistem digital di Indonesia harus kita perkuat,” ujarnya.
Sementara itu, Deputi Bidang Pemasaran Kemenparekeaf/Baparekraf Ni Made Ayu Marthini mengatakan pihaknya mengusung tagline “Games From Indonesia” agar bisa bergema di Jerman.
“Kami ingin tunjukan kepada dunia kalau Indonesia bukan hanya market tapi bisa juga menjadi ‘pemain’ di industri game dunia karena kita memiliki talent-talent yang bagus,” katanya.
Ivan Chen, sebagai CEO dari Anantarupa Studios juga menyambut baik kesempatan ini sebagai momen untuk mengangkat nama Indonesia melalui diplomasi budaya lewat media game.
"Indonesia sejak zaman dahulu kala di era Nusantara memang erat dengan jiwa kepemimpinan. Hal tersebut senada dengan nilai kepemimpinan yang diusung oleh game Lokapala. Harapannya, melalui game Lokapala ini budaya dan sejarah Indonesia bisa turut mendunia, khususnya di pasar Eropa yang menjadi bagian dari acara Gamescom ini." ujarnya.
Di Gamescom itu sendiri, rencananya Anantarupa Studios akan memamerkan kekayaan budaya Indonesia yang diusung lewat dunia dalam game Lokapala, baik dari segi Ksatriya maupun dari dunia di dalam gamenya itu sendiri.
Selain itu, Anantarupa Studios juga akan memperlihatkan fitur baru yang masih dalam pengembangan dan secara eksklusif hanya akan diperlihatkan di Gamescom ini.
